MARMELODIAN: Music
For the Beauty of the Earth
This is the first in a series I plan on doing, recordings of the hymns my mother sang. My mother was raised in a tee tiny little community called Sugar Tree in West Tennessee. Her family was Cumberland Presbyterian. When I was a little girl, she used to take us to the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in our little town here in the foothills of the Cumberland Mountains in East Tennessee. I have wonderful memories of that church, the people, the Easter Egg hunts and Nativity Pageants. But one of the most thrilling and glorious things about church for me, was the organ, the choir and the hymn singing.
I still love hymns. I love to compose hymns and to sing and play the old ones. For me, every hymn is a prayer set to music. "Make a glorious noise unto the Lord." And so I shall.
I'm making "For the Beauty of the Earth" a free download. I hope that you enjoy it and will come back often to check for new music.
Thank you for visiting and listening. I appreciate you.
For the Beauty of the Earth
words by Folliott S. Pierpoint, (1835-1917) Music by Conrad Kocher (1766-1872)
1. For the beauty of the earth
For the beauty of the skies
For the love which from our birth
Over and around us lies
Chorus
Lord of all, to thee we raise
This our hymn of grateful praise
2. For the beauty of each hour
Of the day and of the night
Hill and vale and tree and flower
Sun and moon, and stars of light
3. For the joy of ear and eye
For the heart and mind's delight
For the mystic harmony
Linking sense to sound and sight
4. For the joy of human love
Brother, sister, parent, child
Friends on earth and friends above
For all gentle thoughts and mild
